How Sound settings quiet music and taps (without muting lessons)
A parent guide to Tomorrow Kid’s Sound settings—parent math gate path, Background Music vs Tap Sound, fade-during-assignment, defaults on, and device-local prefs.
What Sound settings are for
Tomorrow Kid’s Sound settings are the parent controls for the app’s ambient chrome—quiet looping background music and tap feedback. They do not turn off Stories narration, Language TTS, or quiz question audio. Those stay on their own rails so you can calm the room without silencing learning content.
Both toggles default on and save on this device (UserDefaults). No account is required. Music uses an ambient session that mixes with other audio, so it will not hijack podcasts or calls.
How to change Sound
- Open Settings (parent math gate first—same gate used for Language and Home Activities)
- Find the Sound section
- Toggle Background Music (music note)—loops the bundled ambient track at a quiet level; when an assignment or activity starts, music fades out, then fades back in when you leave
- Toggle Tap Sound (hand tap)—plays the bundled tap sample on taps; Tracing pencil styles can change the playback rate so the same sample feels like a different “voice”
- Return to Home—prefs apply immediately on this device
Turn music off for bedtime, focus time, or sensory-sensitive play. Leave Tap Sound on if your child likes clicky feedback, or off if the house needs quiet taps.
A calm way to introduce it at home
- Pass the parent math gate yourself before inviting your child into Settings.
- Try one change at a time—mute Background Music first, keep Tap Sound, and notice Home vs assignment quiet.
- Open a short activity (Flashcards or Tracing) and confirm music fades while content audio still works.
- Pair Sound with Language: locale controls spoken content; Sound only shapes ambient chrome.
- If another app’s audio matters, remember Tomorrow Kid already mixes with others—you usually do not need to force-quit music apps.

After Sound feels right, peek at Stories or Language if you want to shape content audio separately. When you are ready, open Tomorrow Kid, pass the Settings math gate, and set Background Music and Tap Sound.
